‘Brooching the Subject’
I was confronted with my unblemished piece of silver and the brief was to make a pendant, however my design was taking on the feel of a brooch and yes, this is how it ended up. Here is my final piece, together with some sketch book designs. The designing came to me rather more easily than the making, which I have to say was shear hard work. I hope you like the finished product complete with amber heart, hewn from the bare stone no less. Outside there were boats mooring alongside and my prime subject matter, namely the Mute Swan was much in evidence. A snapshot of my work station shows the tools of the trade and hopefully gives a flavour for the week. Only time will tell what impact such a rigourous week’s activity will bring to my own practice.

Having seen the brooch in question, I must say what a great job you’ve done! Made me wish I could have a go. The finished piece still exhibits your personality and traits, despite the media being so different to that in which you usually work.
